Welcome to the Kambah Community Garden website.

The Kambah Community Garden is a garden for organic growers. Each member has their own garden plot or two. In the centre of the garden is a lawn with a big shade tree, a table and chairs for meetings and a swingset for young children (quite a few of us have kids). It is a beautiful, peaceful and productive place.

Rules of the Kambah garden for plot holders:

These rules have been developed on the premise that they simply aid common sense and good will in relation to consideration of other gardeners. These rules have been discussed, and agreed to by plot holders at the Kambah Garden annual meting each year.

  1. Members are to be astute regarding our gate lock. The lock number should be scrambled at all times and never passed on to a non member. Upon entering the garden, the lock is to be placed to the left of the gate, on strands of wire adjoining the green shed, out of sight from passers-by.
  2. Garden plots must be adequately maintained at all times. Ownership of unattended plots will be reviewed if left neglected, or unattended, for 3 months without notification.
  3. All rubbish, including rocks, hay strings, palings, piles of weeds (especially couch grass), must be kept clear of garden paths by each individual plot holder. This is and important safety issue to facilitate safe mowing as well as general tidiness. (Also, it would be appreciated by those who mow our pathways if you would avoid piling your weeds/grass/clippings around the outside edge of your garden bed. These dead weeds soon attract couch grass, which then requires mowing. The lumpy weed piles cause damage to the mower blades.)
  4. All empty pots and frost protecting devices, etc must be secured to your plot or stored in the garden shed to prevent them being blown around the garden and on to other plots by the wind. (Pots, flat boards etc. should also be checked regularly to see if they are harbouring snails that wander across to your neighbour’s plot when you are not around.)
  5. The garden must be kept clear of structures and material that may encourage snakes.
  6. All couch dug from the garden plots must be taken away from the garden by the individual plot holder. It is unfair to expect other plot holders to expend the effort in picking it up and the dollars and time to take it to the tip.
  7. The large widen compost bins are strictly for composting weeds and vegetable matter. Couch grass, woody material or other rubbish such as plastic bags must not be placed in these bins.
  8. Unattended sprinklers are not permitted in the garden. If you attend the garden and find an unattended sprinkler, please turn it off. Current water restrictions must be strictly adhered to.
  9. Tap timers are not currently permitted in the garden. Please ensure fellow gardeners have access to all taps.
  10. It is preferred that dogs remain outside the garden, however, it is permitted that dogs be restrained inside the garden so long as consideration is given to other gardeners present. Dogs are not permitted to run free inside the garden perimeter. Dog feces must be removed from the garden site.
  11. The use of CCA treated pine and other chemically treated timbers or man-made materially that can leach glues and other toxins are not permitted to be used on the gardens, or as a border around the gardens.
